Carlisle Indian School (Fall 2003)
In the heart of Carlisle PA is a secret no one wants to identify. On the site of a current army base, there are the remains in a graveyard of young Native children who were stolen from their homes across the country and forced to come to Carlisle's famous Indian School, an institution which occupied the base's land in the latter half of the 19th century. The amazing story reprinted here was written by Pennsylvania investigative reporter Stephanie Anderson. Ms. Anderson uncovered a story long forgotten by many people, though not by the families of the children who died at the school.
